Low is the first promotional single, and third track of Wesley Evans' first EP, Palate. The song was released on July 20th, 2018.
Background[]
After Evans began releasing songs off of his first album, Trust Issues, he began writing songs for his second album. Evans wrote Low in April 2017 for his second album. As time went on, Evans developed more direction for his second album, and scrapped songs. Even though Evans feels as though Low's theme fits the album's theme, he feels as though the genre of the song doesn't fit with the rest of the album, and therefore removed it from the album.
Composition[]
Low is an electropop song that deals with not being able to let go of someone who makes you feel worse about yourself. The song is written in the key of C Phrygian, at a tempo of 106 beats per minute, and lasts for 3 minutes and 24 seconds. The song follows the chord progression of cm-fm-Ab ending with either bbm or Eb, and has the extension of Eb-Db(IV/VI)-Ab(IV/III) during the chorus. The song contains a 'rubbery' bass and a more dubstep-driven drum set.
Lyrics[]
I am always asking why
I keep coming back to you
I feel like I am the tide
Being pulled in by the moon
I’m living on the hope
The hope that you will change
I just don’t know
why I can’t let you go
If every time I see you
You leave me feeling low, low
You leave me feeling low
I don’t know why I can’t leave
Even with thinking it through
You must have tricks up your sleeves
To make me return to you
I’m living on the hope
The hope that you will change
I just don’t know
why I can’t let you go
If every time I see you
You leave me feeling low, low
You leave me feeling low
